Garden Crest Assisted Living is part of a community that also offers skilled nursing care in an adjacent building. The current owner's father built the facility over fifty years ago. The campus is conveniently located within a five-mile radius of several medical centers. Since the community is on a hill, walking without supervision may not be wise—but sitting on the veranda and admiring the Hollywood Hills is perfectly safe! Trees shade the verdant lawns, enhanced by colorful gardens. Plant life adds a wash of color to the patio, accessible by ramp from the parking lot. Well-maintained patio furniture creates a welcoming atmosphere for residents and guests.

The main entrance leads into the lobby, on the second floor. Strategically placed furnishings section off a social nook complete with a TV and a piano. The lobby's linoleum floor is warmed by a beige throw rug. A skylight diffuses sunshine throughout the room. The outdated interior could benefit from a little remodeling. The dining room, also on the top floor, has a homey feel. Four wicker chairs surround each table, covered by a floral tablecloth and glass. We visited during lunch and saw a few family members helping their loved ones with feeding. The menu is healthy, offering protein, carbohydrates, juice or milk and dessert with every meal. The director of nursing who led our tour appears to know every resident's dietary needs. Moderately sized bedrooms compose the remainder of the second floor. The room we saw looked a little shabby; the drapes and carpet had noticeable stains. A twin-sized bed, dresser and end table furnish the space. Some rooms have private patios.

In addition to resident rooms, the brightly painted bottom floor houses the rehabilitation room and the small activity room. In the latter, some residents utilize the laundry area. Tables and chairs, a TV and a bookshelf furnish the space. A window overlooks the hills. The activity schedule includes exercise, bingo, trivia games, puzzles, darts and various religious groups. Garden Crest provides a variety of services including case management, counseling, dentistry, discharge planning, optometry, podiatry, and physical and speech therapies.
