Providing a positive and comforting environment for seniors in need of supervision and some fun, Kenwood Adult Day Health Care Center owns up to its promise. During our visit, every participant we observed was involved in some sort of activity. While one group was moving to an exercise session led by a staff member, other gatherings of participants were playing games or doing arts and crafts projects such as beading and crocheting—all under the gentle observance and with the encouragement of staffers. The programming is geared towards older adults with functional impairments including dementia and focuses on encouraging participants' to reach their maximum level of ability. Puzzles, exercise programs, board games as well as picnics and occasional trips to a local park are a few of the activities here. Musical performers and other entertainers stop by during the holidays and special occasions. Beautiful wooden double doors mark the entrance to the facility, which is located on a residential, tree-lined street in Glendale. Shops and restaurants a plenty are located just a block away on a major street. Inside, a warm and inviting décor awash in hues of peach is the backdrop to framed artwork and flowers throughout. The spacious main activity area doubles as a dining room—cafeteria-style tables are pushed to the walls to make room for activities after mealtime. Several smaller rooms house various games including billiards and backgammon, respectively. Mirrored walls and several well-maintained exercise machines reside in another room, used for occupational and physical therapies. A lovely outdoor patio complete with colorful blooms and plantings offers comfortable seating for participants who want a breath of fresh air.
