Àegis Gardens in Fremont, CA, is a unique senior living community, dedicated to the Asian culture, offering assisted living and dementia care. When the Fremont community opened in November, 2001, Àegis was heralded as one of the first companies to provide assisted living with an authentic Asian experience for its residents. An all-Chinese advisory board helped identify what would be important to a community of Asian seniors, and what cultural significances the project would need to address. Feng Shui consultants advised architects and builders on the layout and design of the community. All 40 staff members at Àegis Gardens are of Asian descent and speak various Chinese dialects.
