People come from all over the Valley to attend Forever Young Adult Day Health Care Center, located in a shopping complex with franchise eateries, small independent stores and ample parking space. Businesses and apartment buildings line the busy street. A wrought-iron fence surrounds the property, which has a handful of park benches. This serves as the only outdoor area for participants, but we were told it doesn't get much use. Pulling up to the center, we noticed vertical blinds shading the windows, allowing for privacy. Past the reception desk in the entry area, there's a large, open space with tall ceilings and unadorned walls. We saw a group of men there immersed in a game of pool. Round tables topped with pink tablecloths and clear plastic are inviting and warm. The staff decorates festively around the holidays. Two rooms for resting, a therapy room, an activity room and four bathrooms, two with disabled access, make up the rest of the interior. The program attracts an ethnically diverse population, including Arabic, Persian, Armenian, Spanish and American participants. Although English language classes are offered for each group, staff members told us that participants often communicate through gestures to overcome the language barrier. We were pleased to find most everyone involved in an activity. During our visit, many participants stretched from their seats in a chair yoga class. We also saw one participant cycling on an exercise bike in the therapy room. Other activities include bingo, backgammon, arts and crafts, singing, dancing and group therapy. Participants enjoy entertainment, in various languages, from visiting performers and go on outings to parks and stores. The Mediterranean-style food served is kosher.
