A giant blue awning shades the entrance to The Waters Edge. The bustling locale on Blanding Avenue conceals the tranquil waterfront deck in the rear, adjacent to Park Street Bridge. Upon entering, we were promptly greeted by the receptionist, who ushered us into the lobby. The room was fairly dim, although fluorescent lighting brightened the hallways. Twin bookshelves, potted plants and attractive furnishings make the lobby an inviting space. The large activity calendar posted here is easy to read. The hallways are wallpapered in bright white with pretty stenciled borders. We observed a group of residents socializing in one of the hallways. Residents' various room plans accommodate between one and three people. The private rooms are spacious enough for personal furnishings. All receive ample natural light, either from sliding doors or oversized windows. The main common area, which is also used for dining, boasts magnificent views of the water. Passing by, we noted a second group of residents engaged in an art activity. Two moderately sized common areas feature comfortable furnishings and televisions. Waters Edge residents benefit from an Eden community-sponsored program that gifted the house with animal friends; residents now share the loving companionship of six cats! We were delighted to learn that the kitchen staff prepares a monthly candlelit meal, commencing residents' month-long study of a particular country; each entrée reflects that country's traditional cuisine! The outdoor courtyard is furnished with shaded tables and chairs. Although rainy weather had dampened the area when we visited, we happily noted the colorful fruits of residents' labor in pretty flower boxes on the patio. Judging from the well-groomed and calm population, the staff and management are quite focused on their caregiving duties.
