South Shore Convalescent is situated on Willow Street, adjacent to Alameda Hospital. A spacious deck is built around a lofty shade tree. Although the deck faces the street, the area is quiet and peaceful. Colorful blossoms edge the paved walkways surrounding the building. We observed several residents gathered in a small seating area in the lobby. The cozy interior, combined with a small resident population, creates a homey feel. The common areas also serve as the dining and activity rooms; here, we noted another group of residents, who were engaged in a craft activity. Residents' rooms are snug, but each has a window that brightens the space. The outdoor area features a furnished patio deck, where the residents often gather beneath the shade of large umbrellas. We came across a staff member and a resident who were so deep in conversation that they hardly noticed us! The environment is friendly and comfortable. Our tour guide, dressed casually in jeans, showcased impressive multitasking skills by attending to business operations during the course of our visit. South Shore Convalescent is perfect for residents who enjoy one-on-one interaction within an intimate setting.
