Change is Good
For many of us the outdoors now boast bright red, orange and golden leaves—and this bright spark has inspired us at Gilbert Guide to make a few changes too. Our biggest bit of news is that Caring.com and Gilbert Guide have joined forces, making our team even larger and better able to help our readers find solutions. You can read all about it in our press release.

Also, if you haven't gotten a chance to yet, take a look at our brand-new channel, The Daily Wrinkle, which has video product demos, interviews with aging innovators along with articles on useful services, websites and blogs. We've worked really hard to create a place where you can find products and services that will make your life easier, safer, and also—hopefully—more fun!

Happy Reading,

What You Need to Know Now to Avoid Wrinkles & Sun Damage
Aging skin is one of the first outward signs of getting older and as we age, skin tends to become drier with more wrinkles, and it is common for spots and growths from sun damage to appear.

After an injury, the skin tends to heal more slowly than it did in our younger years. Some of these changes are natural and unavoidable, but others are bothersome and can be quite serious. read more

How Music Therapy Can Help After a Stroke or Diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease
Music therapy can have a dramatic effect on people after a stroke or a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. People familiar with Alzheimer's disease know this: memory loss and other effects are retrograde. That is, people lose memories, skills and abilities in the opposite order in which they were acquired.

There has been particularly vigorous debate regarding genetic information and the APOe4 allele that is present in about 15 percent of the general population and in about a half of all people diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. read more

Does Your State Have A Long Term Care Insurance Partnership Program?
The long term care partnership program is an initiative that was outlined in the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005. Each state can decide whether or not to enact the program for its residents. It is not mandatory.

The purpose of the long term care partnership program is to encourage consumers to buy long term care insurance to help relieve the financial pressure on the Medicaid program. read more

The Little-Known but Important Details You Need to Know about Reverse Mortgage Eligibility
Determining reverse mortgage eligibility is one of the areas where I get the most questions, and for good reason; while eligibility for the program may seem simple, some of the age and property requirements are a bit more confusing.

The youngest borrower on the title must be 62 or older. Disability does not affect eligibility. This means that if a borrower on the title is younger than 62, his or her name will have to be removed for the title, and the reverse mortgage will become due based on the status of the last borrower to live in the home over the age of 62 at the time the reverse mortgage is taken out. read more
 Funeral Planning: Going in Style
The Funeral Consultant: To Hire or Not to Hire?
Perhaps you've never heard of a funeral consultant, but even if you haven't you probably agree that professional planners are sanity savers. For anything more involved than eloping, for example, many people hire a wedding planner—a professional consultant whose sole job is to plan this expensive, once-in-a-lifetime event.

Like a wedding planner, a funeral consultant is professionally engaged but not emotionally attached to the outcome of the event that she plans; she is ultimately responsible for educating you about all the options; she can help you make decisions when you get stuck; and she can help keep you within budget and make sure you don't forget anything. read more

Aging Skin Care: How to Treat Common Skin Disorders of the Elderly
As the skin is the largest organ in the human body, it's not surprising that as we age, it becomes more susceptible to disease and disorders and this is why aging skin care and proper treatment is so important. This article will address some of the most common skin disorders in the elderly, including warning signs of potential trouble.

Growths and pigment spots become more common with aging skin. Many of these skin lesions are the result of many years of sun exposure, which is why they are commonly referred to as "age spots." read more
