FAQs
- What is the main purpose of Gilbert Guide?
By uniting all aspects of healthy aging and senior care under one roof, Gilbert Guide offers the most comprehensive online resource for seniors, caregivers, families and those with aging loved ones. We provide listings, services, products and topical, relevant content so that families and caregivers can find solutions to their unique aging issues. Our senior housing and services directory gives you the information and contacts you need to find local resources for you, your loved ones, parents and grandparents. Our Expert Columnists tackle the topics that nobody else discusses—from the very pragmatic to the very sensitive—so that our readers come away feeling educated, empowered, understood and armed with the best information available. - What problem do you solve?
People all too often wait until too late to plan for their retirement and aging needs. When an issue arises, whether it's housing care, independent care providers, or tips about diseases, real estate, moving, coaching, financial or funeral planning, legal advice and more, you want to know that there's a trusted resource to guide you to the best solutions. Gilbert Guide is the one stop people can go to find answers to help them with their aging needs. We offer the widest range of resources to help families and caregivers in their time of senior care need—and we make these resources easily accessible online.
- How is Gilbert Guide different than other sites that focus on senior care and aging?
Gilbert Guide is the most comprehensive destination site assisting families and care professionals looking for solutions to their individual senior care needs. Our national provider directory is the most extensive available, covering every category of care from housing to services as well as important auxiliary offerings like Senior Move Managers and certified Aging in Place Home Remodelers.Gilbert Guide has assembled a panel of over 25 experts to address the various needs that families face while considering or dealing with aging and senior care concerns and needs. We are continuously working to expand our topics and expert panel to answer important, relevant questions and deliver sound advice to those making some of the most difficult decisions regarding their loved ones.
While there are a number of other sites in the senior care and aging space, they cover a narrower topical focus that don't address all of a reader’s needs, or they are directory sites that only focuses on senior housing. Senior housing is a small part of a person's overall care needs. We look at aging as a continuum of care.
And the fact is that many people combine many elements of care, such as living in an assisted living facility and hiring someone from a homecare agency for additional help. In addition, most people want to stay in their home as long as possible. Recently, with the economic downturn, we have seen how people have lost significant value in their home or retirement accounts and are now forced to remain in their homes longer. That is why our content and directory addresses the entire spectrum of care needs an individual may choose from, because we understand how multiple and varied external factors affect senior care planning and options.
Unlike other sites that cover one specific category or need around senior care, Gilbert Guide covers more categories than anyone else on the web, taking a more holistic approach to everything around aging. Until recently, if you were looking for quality senior care or housing solutions for yourself or a loved one, you had to do an exhausting amount of legwork to contact every facility and senior referral service out there.
There simply was no reliable, comprehensive source of detailed information on senior care facilities and services. Not only does Gilbert Guide provide top-quality resources and listings, but we have more than two dozen experts who cover a variety of topics related to aging and senior care. We plan to add more to make our content even more enriching and valuable. We also license Gilbert Guide content to select organizations for publication on their websites.
Gilbert Guide aims to be your single source for answers on everything related to aging issues, senior care, housing options, homecare services and more.
- Who is an ideal user of Gilbert Guide? Who visits your site?
Gilbert Guide users are primarily adult children who are considering or providing care for their parents or grandparents. Women ages 40–70 are the primary senior care decision makers and our readership's largest demographic at 85%. Other visitors to our site are a both senior care professionals and seniors who are looking for care for themselves, but those are in far fewer in number than the adult children. - What is the difference between how you recommend caregivers and senior care communities versus other sites and services?
Gilbert Guide does not recommend caregivers and senior care homes. We provide the most complete directory of care giving options and then provide our readers with the information and tools to assess the quality and appropriateness of a care provider for their specific situation. Other sites focus on either a directory service or on consumer education and advocacy—we bring both together into one place. - How can I become a Gilbert Guide contributor or expert?
Gilbert Guide is always looking for experts who can address important information needs that our readers have in their time of needing, finding or providing care. Our experts contribute at least two in-depth articles each month and work directly with our editors to refine it to meet our readers' needs. People, who have specific knowledge and expertise in a unique area, no matter how broad or narrow the focus, should contact us directly to share how they can fill a gap not covered by our current content or expert base. All pitches should be sent to our Editor in Chief, Lara Belonogoff, at lara@gilbertguide.com and address how you think you can add a unique and needed voice to our site. All submission requests will be answered and we will let you know if we think your offering is the right fit and direction for us. - Does Gilbert Guide collect any personally identifiable information?
During registration on the Gilbert Guide site, users are asked to give contact information, such as their name, email address along with other demographic information, such as their zip code and role in caregiving process. We do not currently use this information for any specific purpose but will, from time to time, add site features that utilize this information to personalize content based on your demographic. You can always opt out of any information you no longer wish to receive and we will respect your privacy and requests. Gilbert Guide distributes both monthly and weekly newsletters. Registering on the website automatically registers you to receive free newsletters, which contain articles relevant to senior care issues and topics. Out of respect for your privacy, you can unsubscribe at any time. Find out more about My Gilbert Guide. - I know of a particular aging facility or nursing home—why don't I see it in Gilbert Guide's listings? How do you choose who is listed in the guide and who doesn’t make the cut?
Gilbert Guide strives to provide the most complete, national directory of senior care housing and services available on the Internet. Our initial launch of the directory in March 2008 contained every provider available thorough a large list of national and state licensure sources. We included every facility and service that held a current license from the appropriate government agency. Along with updates that we make to the directory from the various licensing agencies, we also seek direct submissions from the public and from providers themselves for inclusion in our directory. We will include any provider in our directory that delivers a service meeting the definition and criteria of the category they wish to be included. Learn more about the types of listings we offer. - Do you have any plans to expand your content and services outside the U.S.?
While much of Gilbert Guide's library of caregiving articles and tools are relevant in any country that a person resides, certain areas like our national provider directory, definitions of the categories of care and reimbursement options are specifically focused towards a U.S. audience. We do not currently have plans to expand those elements to address international needs.
