What Is...Respite Care?
by Gilbert Guide
Respite care is the temporary relief provided to a caregiver when someone else assumes his or her role as caregiver. Respite can last anywhere from a few hours to several weeks or even months. Respite care is particularly important for family caregivers, who often juggle multiple responsibilities in addition to their caregiving duties. The pressures of caregiving can lead to caregiver burnout, a critical point when a caregiver is no longer able to take care of his or her loved one. Read more information on caregiver burnout.
