My mom is in the early stages of Alzheimer's and I have to admit that I'm really scared to see her deteriorate. I've read a lot about it, but yet am still feeling like I'm entering into something I don't want to see. Being informed about what's to come in the world of this research is amazing. It at least makes me feel like their is so much being done to help combat this.
I was about to go out and research alternative meds - but I think you just saved me a lot of heartache. Thanks, Dr. Fillit. and mostly thanks for telling like it is.
I would like to be able to contact Dr. Fillit personally, as my dad is having some problems lately relating to his speech patterns. He is on a lot of medications, for different reasons, and is under tremendous stress lately, and we can't determine if this is the beginnings of dementia or if this is all stress related. I am very worried and would love to get in contact with Dr. Fillit and set up an appt. for my dad as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Josefs
Dear Jennifer,
I am very sorry to hear about your father.
Dr. Fillit is the founding executive director of the Institute for the Study of Aging (ISOA) and the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation and as such doesn't see patients, but instead works on researching Alzheimer's disease. The Alzheimer's Association (1.800.272.3900) should be able to give you recommendations for providers in your area.
Best,
