Dr. Gilbert,
My mother in law was diagnosed with PCA (Posterior Cortical Atrophy) or Bensons Syndrome which is a rare form of Alzheimer's at 61 years old. She is now 7 years into this diblitating disease and most doctors and neurologists have never heard of it. However; she has started having uncontrollable jerking in which her whole body jerks. Is there anything you can recommend for this that we may talk to her MD about? There is so little information on this type of Alzheimer's disease and we don't know what to expect in the latter stages of it, but she is getting worse and she's only 65-years-old. The symptoms started at age 59, which is in the range of the onset of symptoms. Any information would be appreciated.
Dear Lana,
Thank you for writing in. The best and most up-to-date online information you can provide yourself and your mother's physicians is courtesy of the Mayo Clinic:
