Massage: The Benefits of Neuroreflexology

by Cassandra Stork

The Basics & Benefits of Massage

Reflexology is a type of massage in which the practitioner applies pressure to specific parts of the feet and hands to promote deep relaxation, emotional balance and overall well-being. Each point of the foot is connected to another part of the body by an energy connection (also known as meridians). The feet are seen as a mirror of the body. The basic idea behind reflexology massage is that by manipulating and applying pressure to responsive zones in the feet, function can be improved in corresponding areas of the body. When the energy flow is balanced, reflexology encourages self-healing and promotes relaxation.

Neuroreflexology is a trademarked hands-on methodology of massage based on physical therapy modalities of manipulation using some skills of reflexology as well as advanced massage therapy with a medical-directed emphasis. This unique combination results in increased nerve function and circulation in the extremities.

Physical & Mental Benefits of Neuroreflexology

Some of the benefits of neuroreflexology massage include:

  • Stretching, loosening and releasing the muscles
  • Releasing toxins and endorphins
  • Promoting mental relaxation, calming and reducing mental stress
  • Reducing anxiety
  • Reducing pain and swelling
  • Increasing circulation

Conditions Benefited by Neuroreflexology

The NRT Bentley Method of neuroreflexology has been found to help most forms of peripheral neuropathy in patients with burning and severe pain. Patients often experience improvements after five to seven treatments. In fact, nerve conduction tests have shown that nerve function improved measurably for patients undergoing NRT Bentley Method for six months, with even better results after one year. The NRT Bentley Method of neuroreflexology massage results in less pain and medication, better quality of life, less swelling and improved circulation.

Some of the conditions potentially benefited by the NRT Bentley Method of neuroreflexology include:

  • Peripheral neuropathy
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Post-chemotherapy neuropathy
  • Traumatic nerve injury
  • Post stroke injury
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Chronic back and neck pain
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Nervous tension
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Charcot foot
  • Diabetic wounds and various other neuromuscular conditions

Neuroreflexology is not only a very effective form of massage, but it feels good too!
