A very nice post, thanks for this - pets are a very good way of "keeping going" and once they go away, it can be very difficult.
We never should ignore this fact and always treat the elderly person with full honor and respect.
Thank you—and your comment about “keeping going” is quite apt, as animals need our physical care and keep us going emotionally as well. When they die, a hole is left and we may well struggle with going on. But hopefully after a period of sadness, we go on with our lives.
