When it's the 11th hour and one's parent is unable to make safe, appropriate choices, how do their children pursue legal right to see that they are cared for. My mother is fierce about living independently but her health has been compromised by taking the wrong medications or not taking them.

    Dear Sirs:
I have a 88 year old father who 'hired' a 29yr olf girl from Romania to 'drive him' where ever he needs to go,as he can not drive. Over the past 1 1/2 years, my sister and I have observed she has blown kisses to him, and states she loves him" like a grandfather". My father is/has been developing very fond feelings for her, yet slowly losing his mental capacity fo clear thinking. As he is not capable of walking well, nor getting up and down, he is not capable of showering alone etc. We hired , from an agency, a gentleman to stay with our father a few days/nights a week. He seemed ok with this person, until his Romanian girl returned from Romania for 15 days,( during the holidays) of which he paid her ticket and one for her cat. It is obvious as to what is happening, and we need a written document to protect our father from any /all intentions this girl may have.. such as sexual harrassment, or claiming my father want to marry her, as she mentioned prior to leaving for her trip to Romania. Can you please send me some information that coudl assist us and my father's estate.
    Thank you very much.

    Lorna,

You should speak with an estate planning attorney right away regarding the possibility/necessity of a conservatorship to protect her father. Below, I have listed a few extremely competent estate planning attorneys here who can advise Lorna on how best to care for and protect her father. This may include a mediation or other type of “meeting” with the whole family but getting advice from the estate attorney should be first on the list so that you and her siblings know what your options are.
