Do SNF Regulations Really Work?
As Consumer Reports’ recent findings on skilled nursing facilities point out, the worst of the worst nursing homes are still in operation. According to the data, many of the state agencies that oversee skilled nursing facilities fail to correct problems or ensure that facilities meet basic criteria. In fact, Consumer Reports goes so far as to posit that “through its influence in politics, the [skilled nursing] industry has whittled down the protections of the 1987 nursing home reform law.”
