Hey Laurie,
Great article on medication non-adherence, America's #1 drug problem. I wanted to add Intelecare to your list of reminder providers. Intelecare's notification platform sends patient and caregiver created medical reminders via email, text and voice messaging. Users create the message (daily medications, prescription refills, doctors' appointments), choose the delivery method and the times they want the reminders.
Best,
Alex

There is one missing link in all this: the human being who can legally transfer the pills from either blister pack or bottle to pill holder. If there is no family member to do it, the average caregiver cannot legally do so, and that leaves....who? An RN? At 40 an hour or so? Once a week? Please advise on this. What is the lowest level of certification required to be able to physically fill the pill boxes? This is becoming a VERY IMPORTANT GAP in the system.
Medication administration certification guidelines are administered on a state-by-state basis. It does not require an RN, since Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) in assisted living facilities can do so with an update certificate and appropriate training. Here is an example of a requirement for certification as a "medication aide" in Indiana. Home health care agencies can send a medication aide who has the certification to a home to then transfer pills from a blister pack or bottle to the pill holder.
