Three important vendor sites not mentioned are http://www.quietcare.com, http://www.visonic.com, and http://www.safetycare.net.
Thanks for your response. I am not familiar with Visonic, but will try to learn more. QuietCare, Safetycare.net, as well as Grandcare Systems are all discussed on my blog (where I cover the topic in a bit more detail).
Interesting topic!! I know that I have had my parents get the lifeline emergency buttons. That has made them feel much more secure. They accidentally wore them out of state because they feel so natural. In the beginning, they fought it. I believe that the next thing might be some form of videocam so that I can see how they are really getting around. I see that you have mentioned a number of security sites. That is also another area that I am beginning to worry about. Thank you for such a timely post.
Laurie:
thanks for the article! I read it as part of the Silvers Summit conference in LV... good stuff! I think it's important to nudge children/grandparents to get the technology, then to sit down with the grands and work with them about explaining how to use it...and how they are actually doing us a favor by using the devices. Sometimes reframing the request can make a big difference in acceptance.. ykwim?
Anne, I agree about nudging. Last week I talked with folks from Philips Lifeline -- and they said a growing percentage of their business was coming from the children of seniors, but that primary marketing still had to be to the seniors themselves.
Part of 'doing us a favor' also has to be 'help you stay in this house/home you love as long as possible'
