Gilbert Guide attends the NCOA/ASA Joint Conference in Chicago (brr…)

I’m en route to the NCOA/ASA (National Council on Aging/American Society on Aging) Joint Conference on Aging in Chicago. I’ve hesitated in joining in on these types of national conferences because most of my learning usually comes from hands-on experience: interfacing with the experts doing our reviews, speaking with our readers, meeting with other long-term care professionals, etc. But this year I thought, “here is an opportunity to learn from some of the top experts in the field.” As a matter of fact, there are so many workshops and lectures I’d like to attend that it might come down to drawing straws to narrow down where I’ll end up! Gary Kaye, our head of Business Development, is joining me tomorrow and will be able to network with almost everyone who is anyone in the exhibit room. I’ll join him when I can and am looking forward to meeting some of the stellar companies and organizations that will be exhibiting. Senior Moving Specialist Margit Novack, one of the elder care experts who is blogging for Gilbert Guide, is going to be there as well. Hopefully I’ll be able to post some of the pictures I’ve taken from here, to give you an inside look at what’s going on.

I’m still so new to the aging field (although my back has been acting up a bit today, so I think that’s definitely a sign of my own aging!) that it’s always an immense learning experience to spend time around others in this business. I do my best work by listening to others and absorbing what’s around me. For the next three days I plan on being a sponge, taking in all I can, in hopes of continuing to improve and perfect Gilbert Guide. Anytime we can learn how to better serve the public and the professionals who serve them, I’ll be there. So check out my posts over the next few days to see what’s happening in the field of aging. I’ll cover everything I can from my angle, and will definitely keep my ears wide open!
